Pricing & Services

PRICING. I mostly work by the hour, time and materials, or by the job. There is a two-hour minimum on most service calls, though I’m flexible. Most jobs take two hours or more anyway. Some jobs are billed at a flat-rate because they are standard and take less than two hours.  Or they are bigger jobs where the hourly rate doesn’t work. I am flexible with adjusting my rates when it makes sense for both of us. If there is no emergency, waiting to combine a few small jobs into one service call makes good sense.

SERVICES. There are 100’s of services that a handyman is called upon to tackle from day to day. That’s part of the fun and challenge of this job. I’m up for pretty much anything you need done around the house. If I can’t do it, I’ll tell you. The list below is long but by no means all I can do. If you are looking for something and you don’t see it on the list, please feel free to ask me.

Painting  Painting is one of my specialties. I love how a fresh coat of paint can really bring a room to life. The key to a great paint job is preparation and clean-up. One of my first jobs out of high school was apprenticing with an old school master painter in Chicago. I spent a summer painting interiors and exteriors and really learned how to do things right.

Hanging art  As a former gallery installer I have handled precious works of art with great care in fine galleries. You’ll love seeing your fine art will hanging on your walls as you always imagined it should.

Assemble Flat Box Furniture  These days many people are buying flat box furniture that you assemble at home. It can be intimidating and confusing.  And all those little pieces!
I have a lot of experience putting together bed frames  ( fun video here – https://youtu.be/faWiYJ3UU4g) desks, bookshelves, side tables, just about anything you get from IKEA or elsewhere.

Plumbing  I can handle basic plumbing tasks. Those include clearing drains, changing J-traps, stopping leaks, garbage disposals, installing hot-taps or water filters, changing out toilets or sinks. I don’t run gas lines.

Electric  I can trouble shoot electrical problems and make simple repairs. Things like changing outlets, switches, dimmers and adding new or replacing old fixtures. Install or change smoke and CO2 detectors.
If your electrical issues are beyond my skills or require a licensed pro I will tell you.  I can make recommendations on who to call if needed.
